Child Abuse Prevention is Everyone’s Duty

Child Abuse Prevention is Everyone's Concern

Today's thought comes from Jeromy Wilkins. Jeromy is a dad, a visionary, and a student. And he just happens to have lived in foster care.

If we can create a society that is aware of the lasting health outcomes resulting from abusive childhood abuses, then we can ignite people to change and work toward preventing this abuse from occurring in the first place. Although the conversation of child abuse is commonly seen as taboo in our society, it is important that we address it. We need a multi-generational approach where resilience is built, and toxic stress is reduced. If organizations and people come together to address childhood abuses, we can improve the health and well-being of families and children for years to come.

Here's a simple way to start: CCKids and our first responders in St. Lucie County are hosting an event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., April 10, at the Fire District, 5160 NW Milner Drive, to launch the MANicure Movement.

Come out to get your pointer finger painted blue, and start a conversation: Let the world know that one in five children experience abuse by the time they turn 18. While you're there, ask how you can get your business or group involved. It's easy, and the folks at CCKids will even send you off with your very own MANicure kit.
